🌞 Summer Skincare: Natural Ways to Protect and Nourish Your Skin 🌿
Summer is a time for sunshine, adventures, and soaking up the outdoors—but it can also be tough on your skin. Between UV rays, heat, sweat, and saltwater or chlorine, your skin works overtime to stay healthy. At Be Green Bath and Body, we believe in keeping your skincare routine simple, effective, and natural. Here's how you can care for your skin the green way this summer—and a few of our favorite products to help you glow naturally all season long.
🌞 1. Prioritize Natural Sun Protection
Protecting your skin from UV damage is a must during summer. Look for broad-spectrum sunscreens with mineral blockers like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These natural ingredients sit on the surface of your skin and physically reflect the sun’s rays—making them safer and more eco-friendly than many chemical alternatives. I love to use Good Molecules Sheer Mineral Sunscreen spf 30 available at Ulta. It’s not moisturizing so be sure to follow up with our Be Green Day Cream (which also has zinc oxide but is not sun rated.)
Bonus Tip: Wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and wide-brimmed hats whenever you can. Staying in the shade during peak hours (10 a.m.–4 p.m.) is also a smart move.
💦 2. Stay Hydrated Inside and Out
Hydration is key during the warmer months. Dehydrated skin can become dull, tight, and more prone to irritation.
- Internally: Drink plenty of water, especially if you're sweating more than usual.
- Topically: Use natural moisturizers that contain humectants like aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, or glycerin to draw moisture into your skin. Seal that moisture in with nourishing oils like jojoba, rosehip, or squalane.
🧼 3. Cleanse Gently, But Consistently
Sweat, sunscreen, and pollution can clog your pores and lead to breakouts. Cleanse your face twice daily with a gentle, non-foaming cleanser (if you skin is dry). Look for formulations with mild cleansers and glycerin like our Be Green Gentle Facial Cleanser. If you’re using a tinted sunscreen or a mineral sunscreen, be sure to use a Toner after cleansing. This removes any remaining mineral sunscreen or makeup. Look for one with soothing botanicals like cucumber, calendula, or white tea extract to reduce inflammation while removing impurities. Our Be Green Toners come in 3 variations and will definitely nourish your skin.
🌿 4. Exfoliate—But Don’t Overdo It
Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, keeping your skin fresh and radiant. Natural exfoliants like oatmeal, finely ground apricot kernels, or fruit enzymes (like papaya or pineapple) are effective and gentle alternatives to harsh synthetic scrubs.
Limit exfoliation to 1–2 times per week to avoid disrupting your skin’s barrier, especially if you’re spending a lot of time in the sun. Check out our Dry Cleansing Grains which will leave your skin feeling baby smooth.
🍃 5. Use Antioxidants for Extra Defense
Natural antioxidants protect your skin from environmental stressors like UV rays, pollution, and oxidative damage. Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Kakadu plum and Snow Mushroom are great options for supporting your skin’s natural defense mechanisms.
Apply antioxidant serums or incorporate antioxidant-rich foods (berries, leafy greens, and citrus fruits) into your diet for dual benefits. Our all-in-one RevitaLuxe Radiance Serum fits the bill of offering powerful antioxidant protection, reducing free radical damage and visible signs of aging.
🧴 6. Lighten Up Your Routine
In hot, humid weather, heavy creams and oils can clog pores and feel greasy. Switch to lighter formulations—think hydrating mists, serums, and water-based moisturizers. Let your skin breathe while keeping it nourished. Another plug for our Toners! You can request a spray cap with any of them to keep your skin hydrated easily.
🌸 7. Soothe Sun-Stressed Skin Naturally
If you’ve overdone the sun, treat your skin to calming, cooling ingredients. Aloe vera gel, cucumber slices, or chamomile-infused compresses can provide fast relief for redness, inflammation, or mild sunburn. If you have our Calendula Cream that you use for skin conditions, it will work equally as well to moisturize sun burned skin.
🛁 8. Don’t Neglect Body Care
Your face gets most of the attention, but your body needs love too. Gently exfoliate with a natural scrub once a week and moisturize with a plant-based lotion after every shower. Pay special attention to areas like your shoulders, legs, and décolletage that get frequent sun exposure. I suggest our Body Lotion for most areas and the ever popular Herbal Miracle Balm for your feet.
💚 Final Thoughts
Summer skincare doesn’t have to be complicated. With just a few mindful steps and naturally derived ingredients, you can support your skin through the sunniest season of the year. Listen to your body, keep things simple, and treat your skin with the care it deserves.
Enjoy the sunshine—naturally!
